THE BEAST: The Scandalous Life of Aleister Crowley - Who Practised "Sex-Magic" and Worshipped Satan, Founded a Religion Based on Drugs and Debauchery, Branded His "Wives" and Drove Them Insane."

New York: Ballantine Books, 1959. Item #14466

Internals tight and clean; cover bright and unmarked; VERY GOOD+ copy. Mass market paper but not quite "pulp fiction." Mannix was a sports writer (whose other "famous" work was on the Gladiators) and he cribbed a good deal from Symonds and others to produce this work. Regardless, though he was misinformed in many cases, he was not necessarily prejudiced and often came to some rather insightful conclusions regarding Crowley's motivations. 139 pages.
