PTOLEMY'S QUADRIPARTITE... The Two Last Books from Melancthon's Translation into Latin from the Original Greek. Bound hand written manuscript of 100 pages, unpublished and unknown.
A hand written note on the rear of the half title reads: "This is the original manuscript and it has never been published. 24 Dec. 1885. Wm. C. Edlon Searjeant." As an alternative to Ashmand's translation, this text may provide a greater insight into Ptolemy's system. The volume is quarter bound in leather and boards with corners; rubbed to the exterior. The manuscript is in a pleasant hand though showing some fading at this date. A FINE RARITY. Searjeant was responsible for THE ASTROLOGER'S GUIDE (Lilly and Bonatus) which was published by Redway in 1886 and re-issued by Mandrake and Holmes in 1992. The translator was a friend of HPB, and early member of the Society. (Item ID: 12745)
